About The House Of Hanbury
As long as I can remember I’ve been surrounded by beautiful vintage finds. I come from a long line of folks that held a high appreciation for the well made items from days past.
My mother was an interior designer and filled our lives with colorful rooms, sparkly silver, and elegant tables set with fine china. Each and every piece had a story, a memory and a purpose.
My father grew up with parents that went “antiquing” every weekend. He rode in the car with them on their treasure hunts from such a young age that the first word he could read on a sign was “ANTIQUE”.
I enjoyed the thrill of treasure seeking as a child with both my parents and grandparents. I loved to help create a fancy holiday dining table with my mom using her finest linens, china and silver.
I appreciated the time and effort she put into making every little occasion a special celebration...from beautifully wrapped packages under the Christmas tree, to high thread count sheets and fancy pillows on the beds. I learned quickly that “love is in the details”.
When I first met my husband I quickly realized that he came from a long line of “junkers”. His parents enjoyed weekend yard sales and had a shop out back filled with antique tools, mason jars, wagon wheels, quilts, furniture.. a plethora of unique finds. They may not have been the most elegant but they were well made, useful and told a story just the same.
Together we have enjoyed studying the history of pieces we find, traveling to small towns, meeting new people along the way, exploring antique and vintage shops, displaying our favorite pieces, and just spending time treasure hunting as a team.
My passion for all things old and beautiful Is definitely in my blood. After teaching school and raising 2 boys it was my time to figure out what made me happy. I quickly realized that the”thrill of the find” and placing that item into a home where it’s loved, cherished, displayed or used gave me an immense amount of JOY!
THE HOUSE OF HANBURY grew from that spark of JOY.
I have found my true passion and I named my business after my sweet mom, Shirley “Bucky” Hanbury. I feel her energy moving me everyday in a direction to spread love to all of you. I hope my “one of a kind” vintage finds spark a memory, evoke an emotional response, or remind you of someone special.
