Vintage Place Card Holders, Glass with Mirror, Hand Painted Flowers, Set of 8, original box
Can't remember who you invited to dinner?😂 Use place cards!!
This vintage set of mirrored glass "card" have hand painted flowers and a metal stand. There is a frosted area where you can write each name. They came in the original box for easy storage and safekeeping.
Here is some info on how placecards originated and the purpose they served:
In old english days (think Downton Abbey), guests who were invited to a social event would be welcomed to dinner by announcement, usually by the butler. Upon announcement, it was considered proper etiquette for guests to line up, two-by-two, according to rank (in England, everyone had a rank). That order is how they would enter the dining room.
Place cards were provided to serve two purposes: first, they assisted guests in knowing what the proper order should be in the most efficient way possible. Second, place cards prevented guests from mixing up the proper order of entrance.
These mirrored cards have some paint wear and a little bit of scratching which is typical with age and use. They are a great conversation piece!
See picture details as they are part of the description.
