Vintage Florentine Bookends, Hinged, Courting Scene

Florentine literally means "from Florence". It can refer to people or things. The Florentine style of design stated in the 14th century and regained popularity in the mid 19th century. it's qualities include gilded gold in rare wood,then hand painted and often with rare artwork added. Reproductions of those works of art were later used in the 19th century. This pair of bookends has all those traits. They are gilded with a famous courting scene reproduction on each one. They have a metal hinged base that allows them to be folded and store. Great vintage condition.
