These gorgeous plates are very Mid Century Modern dating back to the 1950s. Each has a more matte finish than shiny and they are a blackish brown lacquer. The beautiful Asian pastoral design with mountains and pagodas actually sparkle with the shell inlay and a glitter effect within the paint. It's very difficult to see in pictures. Slight scratching a a little bit of paint wear on each plate typical with age, but it does not detract from its beauty. Hang on the wall or display on a shelf or table.
